Prof. Wickramagamage on Viability of Setting up a Higher Educaiton Institute

It is doable but you need a huge investment.  Otherwise it will be like a tutory, many such things are in Sri Lanka.  


            The basic requirements are the land, buildings, laboratories and other infrastructure.  Man power is not a problem in Kandy Area.  You can also think about a different model from what is generally available at State Universities and the private tutories.  A more problem oriented and multi-disciplinary postgraduate degrees should be the focus.  It is also necessary.   Sine a new such institution has a recognition problem, teaming up with a foreign institution might be a good idea.  The market is already crowded with many suspicious institutions, you have to be able to offer a more credible option to the students, local as well as foreign.
